The decision of Methodist Church Nigeria Conference held in Port-Harcourt in August 1992, granted Ijeshatedo the status of a Circuit.  In the fulfillment of the decision, the Circuit was inaugurated on the 10th January, 1993 by His Grace The Most Rev. O. Obaba.  The then Archbishop of Lagos.  While the Thanksgiving was held on 21st February 1993. Long before this milestone, the inspiration of planting a new church at Ijeshatedo was moved by Bro. S. O. Ogunfile who was a staunch member of Methodist Church Odi-Olowo Mushin in 1972. The first service was held in his personal house at No. 5, Okunola Street, Ijeshatedo with the members of his family.

The increase in membership of the church compelled them to move the church to Victoria Nursery School premises at Immam Shuaib, the place owned by Bro. & Sis. Adewuyi. The first Sunday Service was conducted precisely on Sunday 7th January, 1973 with the following people in attendance.

Bro. S. O. Ogunfile, Sis. Olabisi Ogunfile, Bro. (Late) J. D. Olatunji

Sis. (Late) Esther Oyetunji, Bro. J. D. Akerele, Sis. (Late) Esther Akerele and Fourteen children of these families.

IJESHA -TEDO CIRCUIT

As membership continued to grow, Bro. I. A. Abati, Late Pa Oyetunji, Late Pa Ogunfowokan and Late Bro. N. A. Coker were asked to negotiate the purchase of the Church land with Onitire family.  Eventually, the small piece of land was acquired on the 16th January, 1976.  Even though the four (4) plots of land had been earlier allocated to the Church at Akewukewe Street, Ijeshatedo.  However, because the area was water logged, it was not possible to commence any development activity.  Unfortunately, the said four (4) plots had been encroached by the Omo Oniles and what we have there today is about one (1) Plot.

The first service in the present Church site was conducted on Sunday April 8th 1978 by Bro. J. Adewuyi.

The confirmation of the first set of members was held at Ereko Methodist Church, Lagos on Sunday 25th October 1978.

The foundation of the Church building was laid on March 27, 1979 by the Presbyter of Ereko Circuit, The Very Rev. Akin Sodimu assisted by the members of the Church.

The full Circuit status was granted upon initial application at the Okigwe Conference of Methodist Church Nigeria in 1989. At the inaugural quarterly meeting held in the church premises on Tuesday October 1989 under the Chairmanship of Archbishop of the Lagos Diocese - His Grace, Most Rev. J. O. Obaba and in attendance were Very Rev. J. O. Adekambi (Ikate Presbyter) and Rev. J. F. Lokoyi, Minister in-Charge, Ijeshatedo.
