MCN Lagos Mainland Diocese

30th October 1983, Patriach Bolaji Idowu during the dedication service, pronounced Folawiyo Bankole Memorial Methodist Church as a Circuit. Consequently, The Revd. M.O. Amoo was upgraded to a Presbyter status.
This pronoucement was ratified during the Methodist Church Nigeria Annual Conference which took place at Otapete Catedral in Ilesha, when between 14th – 25th November, 1983, the Conference decided to carve out Ikate Circuit as a one-church Circuit (FBMMC). However, Folawiyo Bankole Memorial Methodist Church played prominent role in the starting of Olorunda and Ijeshatedo Methodist Church in the 1950s.

Consequently, upon this development Folawiyo Bankole Memorial Methodist Church decided in accordance to section 180 of the old constitution not to accept the Circuit status having met all the requirements owing to the crisis which empted in the MCN then.
When the crisis was over and peace restored, the church decided to conduct the official inauguration service of Ikate Circuit on Sunday 12th August, 1990.

IKATE CIRCUIT

The 1st Presbyter, The Very Rev J.O Adekambi (late) was inducted along with Bro (now) Sir Akin Lawanson as the 1st Senior Circuit Steward along with other officers. Late Bro. E.T. Ogunyomi served for 13 years as Senior Society Steward, and retired voluntarily and handed over to Pa. Kayode Aluko. The following are the Senior Circuit Stewards who have served Ikate Circuit:

Bro (now) Sir. Akin Lawanson 1990 – 1995
Pa. R.A. Adeagbo 1995 – 2001
Bro. I.O. Bolaji 2002 – 2007
Sis. L.C. Onwuka 2008 – till date.

The Most Reverend J.O. Obaba – Archbishop of Lagos and The Most Reverend E.A.O. Idowu – Archbishop of Lagos was in attendance. Folawiyo Bankole Memorial Methodist Church operated as a one church Circuit, because of the determination and the faith which our founding fathers bequeathed to us. The support and encouragement from our mother Church (Ereko Circuit) will also be acknowledged.

The Circuit marked her 21st year anniversary this year 2011 to the Glory of God. Ikate Circuit can hold its own in the Diocese of Lagos Mainland. Her success story is the prayerful nature of her congregation.

And Folawiyo Bankole Memorial Methodist Church is the headquarters of this Circuit presided over by a man of vision and action very prayerful father in the Lord, The Very E. Oluwafemi Ogundumila.
